আসলে শ্যামল জানা মূলত চিত্রশিল্পী। সেইসাথে কবি, প্রাবন্ধিক। বরং গল্পকার হিসেবেই তাঁকে আমরা এই গ্রন্থ থেকে প্রথম জানলাম। তাঁর এই গল্পগ্রন্থে মোট উনিশটি গল্প আছে। প্রতিটি গল্পই স্বাতন্ত্র দাবী করে। বলা যেতে পারে বিষয় থেকে নির্মাণ, এই সবটাই বাংলা সাহিত্য বিরল। নতুন বাতাস এনেছে। যেমন এতে বড়দের রূপকথা আছে চারটি—ফুঁ ও ফিতে, ছায়ানট, তৃতীয় নয়ন, আমার ভিজে হাসিগুলি। ডকু-ফিকশন আছে চারটি— লে দেমোয়াজ়েল দাভিনো, লাশকাহিনি, শনাক্তকরণ, মুনলাইট সোনাটা ও ফিফথ্ সিম্ফনি। বড়দের ননসেন্স প্রোস আছে দুটি— হাঃ-হা-হাঃ-হা-হাঃ-হা, ছায়াসঙ্গী। অ্যাবস্ট্রাক্ট সুররিয়েলিজম আছে দুটি— অবিশ্বাস্য বৃষ্টিপাত, সাঁকো। সিম্বলিজম্ আছে তিনটি— কেবলি, ভুল বানান, একটি জীবন্ত পাতকূয়া। ম্যাজিক রিয়েলিজম আছে দুটি— নিপুন কোলাজ, ক চ ট ত প। পোস্টমডার্ন কথোপকথন আছে একটি—মুখোমুখি দুই মেঘনাদ। বড়দের ভুতের গল্প আছে একটি— একটি ভুতুড়ে উপন্যাসের খসড়া।

আর এই গল্পগুলির সবই আখ্যানধর্মী। স্টোরি উইদাউট স্টোরি বলা যায়। আর প্রতিটি গল্পের নির্মাণ, বাক্যগঠন, ভাষাপ্রয়োগ, বুনন, সেই গল্পের বিষয় অনুযায়ী তৈরি হয়েছে। ফলে, প্রতিটি গল্পের স্বাদ অন্য গল্পগুলির থেকে সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা। আর প্রতিটি গল্পের বিষয়ও অভিনব, যেগুলি বাংলা সাহিত্যের যে গতানুগতিক ট্রেন্ড তার থেকে একেবারেই স্বতন্ত্র। তাই, এই গল্পগুলি পাঠ করতে বসলে প্রতিটি গল্প থেকেই পাঠকেরা সম্পূর্ণ নতুন এক অভিজ্ঞতা পাবেন।
